Euro 2016 Player Spotlight: Cesc Fabregas to Play Xavi’s Role for Spain

Having featured in the Spanish side that utterly outplayed Italy in 2012 final of the illustrious competition, Cesc Fabregas will be keen on helping Spain to retain their European crown once Euro 2016 officially kicks off.

It’s very possible to envisage Fabregas finishing the tournament with the most assists considering his tremendous vision and passing ability. He is accustomed to playing in the main competitions, and the spectacle of Euro 2016 will surely not make him buckle under any kind of pressure.

Spain has undergone a massive decline in the past two years following the way their World Cup campaign turned out in 2014. Since then, some fresh legs have been introduced to the side in a bid to replace the ageing stars of La Roja.

The likes of Koke have been brought into the team to set the pace for a new era of Spanish football and to reestablish their dominance on a global scale.

Fabregas will take on the role of Xavi in the team, as he’s quite similar to the legendary Spanish midfielder.

Xavi’s precision underlined his overall style of play as he was a gifted passer of the ball and is widely regarded as the greatest midfield player of all time alongside the likes of Andrea Pirlo.

Fabregas is also on his way to being inducted in that exclusive list, and a superb performance during the European Championship can put his name in the history books.

Fabregas has the ability to tear open a team’s defensive lineup with one single pass, as his game is all about providing assists rather than scoring, although he bags his fair share of goals from time to time.

With a blend of experience and ability, the Spaniard is amongst the highly rated players going into the tournament and may very well be Spain’s most important midfield player.

Fabregas has played 105 times for Spain, scoring 15 goals in those international outings. He’s been an integral part of the Spanish national team set-up since his days as a Barcelona player, and with loads of experience under his belt, he’ll be looking forward to leading the new generation of Spanish stars.

Fabregas didn’t enjoy the best of times with Chelsea. Although, he had a great second half of the season as he scored four goals and made five assists in 2016.

Fabregas will be pleased to have regained his form just in time for Euro 2016, and on that note, he’ll be looking to win another European trophy with La Roja.
