Having faced a backlash from the fans and pundits for a lack of transfer activity buzz in recent windows, Wenger looks ready to splash the cash in the recruitment of Germany international winger, Julian Draxler.
The 22-year-old forward impressed at the Euros all through his country’s run to the semis, and having been linked with an EPL switch for a while now; this summer could be it.
Wolfsburg isn’t keen to let their best player and most valuable asset go, and have insisted he would be spending next season with them.
It looks like a strategy to get the best possible deal for their player, and Arsenal’s rumoured £50million seems the best they can get at the moment, but they want more.
If both parties eventually reach an agreement, and the highly-rated winger arrives Emirates, here are what to expect from him in the Arsenal shirt.
BECOME THE MAHREZ WENGER BADLY WANTS
The French tactician is keen on landing the Leicester City forward after his heroics last season. With him meeting a brick wall with every attempt, Draxler might just be the answer to his troubles.
He was a spark for the German attack at the European Championships, and he will fit perfectly well into Arsenal attack just like a Mahrez would have.
With age on his side and a lot of time for him to further enhance his skills and techniques, Arsenal could be getting a future Balon d’Or winner on their books.
HELP WITH A TITLE WIN
Arsenal’s faithful are only concerned as to how a player linked with the club can contribute to their title ambitions.
Staying 12 seasons without that coveted prize continues to irk them, but Draxler might just have that solution in his hands (legs).
Given that Sanchez and Ozil could do with another quality forward to lineup alongside with, Julian’s abilities can combine with theirs to finally deliver that EPL glory.
83% pass accuracy, 71% success in take-ons, 61% shot accuracy, 36 created chances, five goals and five assists in 21 league games are great statistics for a 22-year-old.
Aided by the quality of a midfield that boasts of Xhaka, Cazorla and Ramsey, we would see an increase in those numbers if he’s brought in.
PROFICIENT VERSATILITY
Primarily a left attacking midfielder; Draxler is also able to excel in a central role, right behind the striker, on the right and flank even up front as a false 9.
These qualities make him a very useful option for Wenger in every possible forward role. He’s a Giroud-Sanchez-Ozil combination as he can backup for any of them.
Giroud’s lack of consistent quality finishing might also give Draxler a chance to take up that position permanently. Being able to use both feet and wield the most lethal shots at goal from any angle or distance, he has what it takes to lead the attack.
Henry and Van Persie were both wingers earlier in their careers, and they transformed into two of the best strikers Arsenal ever had. Draxler might be the next. Arsenal boss is a master at making such career transformations to great effect.
